ABOUT

That's me and my wife, Esther. That picture was taken in one of those old -time-four-photos-for-a-buck booths with hats and other costume items just outside the door.

My formal training is in journalism and art. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time and met up with Len Press, then the head of the Radio-TV Department at the University of Kentucky. I was a student at the time, although I never had a class under him. I spent some time in the Air Force and when I returned to UK, I discovered that Press was actively working on building a statewide public television network. I worked for him writing PR pieces and doing artwork for him from time to time.

I graduated and headed to Atlanta to art school. Press and I stayed in contact. He was still working on the PTV network. It took him 10 years to put it together. (You can read his account of its creation. Click here.)

After two years in art school, I came back to Kentucky as the art director of the newly built network. I was there when it signed on the air. I spent the next 22 years there. During that time I was art director, production manager, producer and eventually head marketing.

In recent years I have spent more and more time with my camera or creating artworks.

New acquaintances often ask me a question that leaves me stumbling around trying to answer, and that is, "What's your specialty?" The truth is that I am interested in all media and processes, and even at this late stage of my career I haven't settled on just one or two.

I am proficient with the standard tools of the trade: oil paint, watercolor, pens-and-ink, etching, and serigraphy. Early on I shot B&W photos and printed them in a darkroom. When I started working for publications I shot slides almost exclusively.

I use digital camera exclusively now. I find digital tools to be tremendously exciting and I have explored them intensively.

Most of my work displayed on this site was touched in one way or another by digital technology.

This Webb site is a gallery of some of my photographic work and is a work in progress Take a look around and come back from time to time to see what's new..
