GOING ON 200:
Century-old Businesses in Kentucky
There are hundreds of century-old businesses in Kentucky. Their diversity is amazing, their history fascinating.
Through historic and contemporary photographs and insightful essays, Going on 200 tells the stories of almost fifty of them. From the Auburn Leather Company to Tonini Church Supply, from the Dahl & Groezinger scrap yard to the A. D. Campbell dress shop, it's an appreciation of our century-old businesses both as providers of indispensable services and products, and as beacons of continuity in a commercial and cultural landscape stormy with change.

Clark’s Kentucky Almanac and Book of Facts editions has appeal for young and old alike, history or trivia buff—no other publication has included such a variety of information about Kentucky.
Two books that I'm proud to say that I had a major hand in creating are Clark's Kentucky Almanac and the Kentucky Almanac Second Edition. I was the photo editor for both of them and I took several hundred photos that are in the books.
Incidentally, both books feature introductions by the late historian Thomas Clark.
The Second Editon of the Almanac has over 300 new photos in it and nearly 50% of the text is new. Buy both of them for your personal library. These are historic editions.
Going on 200 (below) involved visiting and photographing businesses across the state over a period of a couple of years. This was an interesting way to discover a "behind the scenes" Kentucky and meet the people who run small businesses.
TOMMY is a very special book for me. My dad wrote it 50 years ago shortly before he died. He was a writer. He had churned out many westerns and mysteries during the war. In 1950 he had his first novel published. Publishers were not interested in taking on this second novel by a deceased writer so this manuscript lanquished on the shelf for years. Clark Publishing decided recently to give it a go.
I did the layout and cover design for it.
No. I didn't do the cover photo, and it is not a family picture. It is a great photo isn't it? I found it in the online Archives of Ontario.
TOMMY is available in paperback at Amazon. You can also buy a digital version for the Kindle reader. Buy a copy and tell your friends about it.

It took Len Press 10 years to get the public television network off the ground and I worked for him off and on many of those years while I went to school. I started work at KET in earnest when it went on the air in 1968.
This is Len's story of those early years and more.
